Last week I finally had a chance to go through all of Maddie's baby clothes and figure out what will work and what is needed. I washed everything and put the clothes away, organized by size, in the dresser and closet. It was quite a task but I'm relieved to have that checked off the list. Next will be installing a new closet system and cleaning out the furniture and setting it up in the new "guest" bedroom. I overdid it a bit with all that work and felt the effects physically for a few days. After some stretching and rest I do feel better. I also had a cold last week which made me feel pretty miserable, especially without many options for remedies safe in pregnancy.
I am apprehensive about weighing in at Dr. Deprez' next week. I feel like I'm really getting big fast and hope the scale doesn't jump like it did last time around this time. At my next visit I was also having the glucose tolerance test.
Maddie has been so cute when we talk about her baby sister. I told her that her baby sister's name is going to be Ella. She said in the cutest voice "Her name is El-la?" She has loved looking at all the little baby clothes and even shows her affection but hugging them. Today she lifted my shirt to "show" her baby sister a new outfit grammy bought. She ended the conversation with a little kiss to the belly. Grammy asked her if she was excited to be a big sister and she said "yes, but we have to wait for her to come out."

21 Weeks
My repeat anatomy scan this past week went well. Baby girl was still in the breech position and lying on her back but this time the tech was able to see just about everything they couldn't last time. She was able to visualize the kidneys and arteries, aortic arch and the sacrum. Dr. Deprez left me a message when he got the report and was satisfied with all of the findings.
I am still feeling well but can definitely tell that baby girl is growing rapidly as I seem to be doing the same. My belly seems quite big all of the sudden and I am finding myself getting uncomfortable at times. She is moving quite a bit and sometimes decides to rest on some pretty unpleasant places, i.e. my bladder. I can also feel her move on both sides of my belly simultaneously which shows how big she is now!
In other news we have ordered the crib and we are pretty sure we've picked a name for our little one! Next task, go through Maddie's baby clothes and decide what we will need come August....

20 Weeks
I had my 20 week check up today. Since they weren't able to see everything on my anatomy scan I will go for another ultrasound next week, hopefully my little sweetie will cooperate this time! We talked about the discrepancy in my due dates. Dr. Deprez thinks it's very possible I would be due a week earlier. Even though it's "splitting hairs" as he put it, it does make a difference near the end of my pregnancy. It would make a difference in his choice to induce me early if that was necessary and also would make a difference in how long he would let me go overdue before inducing. He did not feel strongly either way about changing my due date but it is something we will both be aware of.
My weight was up 4 lbs since last visit making 14 pounds total this pregnancy. I had him remind of my weight gain at this point last time. I was up about the same amount but was reminded of the big jump I had between 18-24 weeks, I am hoping to avoid that this time! My BP was 104/60 and urine test was negative. He felt my uterus at the umbilicus and my fundus measured 18 inches.
In general I've still be feeling well. I still have occasional heartburn and get tired easily. PT, OMT and home exercises/stretches are helping to keep me relatively pain free. I have been feeling a lot more baby movement. Carolyn got to feel her move for the first time the other day. Next task: ORDER THE CRIB!!

18 Weeks
On 3/6/13 we had our anatomy scan ultrasound at Memorial Hospital. Baby girl was still a baby girl and sitting on her bum breach. This made it difficult for the tech to see certain things but what they did see was reassuring. Dr. Deprez is going to talk with me about the possibility of doing another ultrasound so they can better visualize the kidneys, aortic arch and sacrum. I had to get off the table at one point (again!) and even did a 360° on the table to try and get her to move, but she was budging! Interestingly, I am still measuring a week further along and the measurements still match my original due date of 7/31. I am going to ask Dr. Deprez if he would consider changing my due date but something tells me he wont. I know it's only a week difference but it bothers me that it's the difference between July and August!
My heartburn has settled down a bit this week after it peaked last week. I had severe right sided chest pain which I believe was related to indigestion. It wasn't pleasant and had me worried about my gallbladder. Thankfully it went away the next day so I didn't need to have a gallbladder ultrasound. As my belly grows I am starting to get more uncomfortable. My round ligaments (in the front) are getting sore and just generally feel bloated and achey. My SI joint is still behaving thankfully, probably mostly because of my efforts with PT, OMT and massage. I've been trying to be good about keeping up with my exercises and stretches at home too although it's not always easy. I've noticed my sleep is getting a little more restless. I am still sleeping well enough but seem to wake up frequently to change from side to side. I've also been catching myself on my back a lot, even though I'm comfortable that way I really shouldn't be on my back for any length of time.
Maddie is being so cute with the thought of being a big sister. She talks to her baby sister almost every day and leans her head against my belly to give hugs and kisses. She talks to her, asks her if she is ok and shushes her telling her "it's ok." She also shares her beloved bunny to keep her "warm and cozy." The funniest thing so far has been when Maddie offered her baby sister milk through a straw in my belly button! She also thinks that she is touching her sister if she sticks her finger in my belly button. She's really hilarious.
With my second trimester energy I've been having some nesting instincts kick in. We will hopefully be looking for a crib this week and I've slowly been weeding through some of Maddie's books and miscellaneous items and setting them aside for the baby. I will need to go through some clothes soon, I'm hoping with fall/spring clothes will be interchangeable between my two girls. Looks like at the very least I need to getting shopping for some summer newborn/small sized things....oh darn ;-)

Baby Movement (16 weeks)
Last night, at 16 weeks 3 days, I was able to feel my baby moving for the first time! There have been a few times recently where I questioned some movement but last night I am sure I felt it. I forgot how much I love that feeling....of course it's all fun and games until you're getting kicked in the bladder or in the rib but we have a while before we get there.
Otherwise, I have been feeling pretty well. For the most part I do still fell like I have more energy. My SI joint pain hasn't been too bad. I know my limitations and have started physical therapy and continue to see a doctor for OMT. I have had an increase in heartburn in the last couple of weeks. Not necessarily related in particular foods but I don't remember having heartburn so early with Maddie. It's not very pleasant at times but thankfully Tums usually help.
I saw Dr. Deprez on 2/19 for my 16 week check up. Everything looked good and was able to hear the heartbeat on the doppler. My blood pressure was good at 120/70, my weight is up 10 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. I had some blood work and will be scheduling another ultrasound in the next couple of weeks.

It's a....GIRL!! (15 Weeks)
We got to spend Valentine's Day by seeing our newest little GIRL. We arranged for a private gender determination ultrasound in Brookline. It was a relaxed atmosphere and we had plenty of time to sit back and watch our little baby up on the big screen. It was looking like we might have to return to check the gender another day but finally, after a second round of jumping up and down, she showed us her "girl parts." We were both quite surprised because we thought we were having a boy but the instant I found out we were having a little girl my heart fluttered and daddy's eyes welled up with joy. We are so thrilled that Maddie will have a sister to grow up with. A friend of mine said "I see a wonderful future of tea parties, playing dress up, sharing clothing and secrets, and little Maddie meeting her best friend for life..." I think that says it all. What a blessing!

14 weeks
Well it turns out some of my dramatic belly popping last week was partly due to bloat too. Thank goodness because it was alarming! By the end of the week my round belly had decreased in size a bit, I still feel much bigger than I did with Maddie this early on. I bought some new maternity pants so I will be all set when that belly pops again. Truth be told, I wore a pair today because they are so darn comfortable!
I am still having days where I am really tired but I still think I am getting more energy and motivation back. My SI joint is still behaving and I saw a new doctor for OMT today. I think I'm really going to like it. Even though I haven't been in pain for a couple of weeks he still felt that I was quite restricted in the pelvic area (basically my whole right side including neck and upper back) so he wants to see me back in 2-3 weeks instead of a month. He also prescribed PT again so at least I can get back to the exercises that helped me last time. It's only 2 days a week so I'm hoping that will be more manageable in my schedule. In terms of other symptoms I am having, I started having some heartburn the past 2 days. Bananas have started giving me trouble again, just like they did with Maddie.
I am very excited that in less than 2 weeks we get to see our baby again. We decided to schedule a private "gender determination" ultrasound. Our appointment is on Valentine's Day and we are hoping we will be able to see the gender of the baby. They said that as long as the baby cooperates with positioning that they will be able to see the gender that early, I will be 15 weeks, 3 days. The traditional anatomy scan closer to 18-20 weeks will serve as a confirmation for us. As I learned with Maddie, I will not be satisfied with just one ultrasound confirming gender!
